Tom Logan letters to Maude Hurd
Manuscripts
Small group of letters includes 12 letters from Tom Logan to Maude Hurd and 1 letter from Hurd to Logan from 1884 through 1885. In Logan's letters, he describes events on the Southern Great Plains, including the dispatch of his company to help control the incursions of Euro-American settlers into lands within the Indian Territory (foreshadowing the land rushes of 1889 and 1893). They offer insight into his views of Indians and of the western landscape where he served. Additionally, they offer insights into the rituals and rhetoric of courtship. Logans' letters contain varied assertions and entreaties about the pace of his efforts, the sincerity of his feelings and the depth of his commitment. In Hurd's only letter to him, she closes the circle by her excoriation of him for having abandoned their correspondence. There is a transcript included with each letter.

Myron Hunt Papers

The collection consists of papers dealing chiefly with the work of Myron Hunt and Virginia Pease Hunt with philanthropic and civic organizations in Pasadena, California, from 1917-1946. There are also two sketchbooks by Myron Hunt (1894) and thirteen journals (1893-1913) of his first wife, Harriette Boardman Hunt, written from Europe, Evanston, North Carolina, and Pasadena and Palm Springs, California, from 1893-1913. While some of the materials concern the life and architectural work of Myron Hunt, quantitatively, the collection is weighted toward the story of Pasadena from 1903 to 1946. The collection also contains sub-groups consisting of the papers of Myron Hunt's son, Robert Nichols Hunt, and of the Boardman and Nichols families. Some of the philanthropic organizations in which Myron and Virginia Pease Hunt were active are represented in the collection. These include: California Junior Republic, Huntington Memorial Hospital, Pasadena Army & Navy League, Pasadena Association, and the Pasadena Block-Aid Committee. Persons represented in the collection include: Myron Hunt, Virginia Pease Hunt, Henry A. Boardman, Robert Nichols Hunt, Harriette Boardman Hunt, and New Mexico author Paul Horgan (a friend of Robert Nichols Hunt). Some notable items in the collection include: Boardman, Henry Augustus. Theodore Barrell commonplace book

Commonplace book that Theodore Barrell put together between 1804 and 1846. The bulk of the manuscript is written in the same hand, most likely Theodore Barrell. Included are copies of letters (1775-1778) addressed to Colburn Barrell; devotional prose and poetry (1780-1781) including those by Dr. George Newbern Barrell; miscellaneous writings of Robert Sandeman; a plan of the Paul Alley Sandemanian church in the Barbican in London; and copies of letters (1780-1783) by Walter Newbern Barrell. The poetry and prose provide an insight into the devotional culture of the Sandemanian churches in New England and in Britain, especially in London and Perthshire, Scotland. The letters cover the events in Boston and Halifax during the American Revolution from a loyalist perspective. Walter Newbern Barrell's correspondence relates news from London, including those of the Gordon riots and their immediate aftermath.
