Huntington writes of his involvement with California politics, claiming local politicians targeted him and his Southern Pacific Company with "unparalleled vigilance." He plans to stay out of further affairs until local nominations have been made, and remarks "no one will put himself out more personally or pay more money, to advance the best interest of California, than I will myself."
