    Ola'a Sugar Company contract with Miyashita Haruemon and Miyashita Soyo

    A signed contract between the Ola'a Sugar Company in O'ahu, Hawai'i and a Japanese man Miyashita Haruemon and his wife Miyashita Soyo that specifies their monthly salaries: $15 in U.S. gold coins for Haruemon and $10 for Soyo. It also includes monthly fees for their return passage to Japan, provisions for free fuel, unfurnished lodgings, and necessary medical care and medicine. There are two revenue stamps on the front page for $1 and $0.50. The front page of the contract is written in English and the reverse side is written in Japanese. Also signed by Frank B. McStocker, the company's manager from 1899 to 1904, and Morioka Makoto, a Japanese immigration agent.
